The hard work and money questions
Losing work, money trouble, overwork, a hard manager and whether to quit: how to read them honestly, and when the facts and the help belong outside the cards.
In this lesson you will
- Turn job-loss, debt, overwork and quitting questions toward what you can know and do.
- Notice when a daily draw about a work or money worry has become part of the worry, and stop.
- Recognize a work or money question that belongs with real help: debt advice, a labor office, a lawyer or a doctor.
Since the restructuring was announced, you draw a card every morning about whether your name is on the list. On the mornings the card looks kind you breathe out; on the others you read every shadow as bad news. The cards have become one more thing to be anxious about.
Why some questions are harder
Some work and money questions carry more fear than others: losing a job, debts, a load you cannot carry, a manager who treats you badly, and whether to quit. They are hard because the answer seems to sit with a company, a creditor or a boss. The method stays the same; what changes is how much of the question belongs with real help.
| Question | What no card can say | What the reading can work with |
|---|---|---|
| Losing work: Will I be laid off? | The company's decision | What helps me prepare, whatever is decided? |
| Debt: Will I ever get out of this? | The numbers and your rights, which an expert can read | What helps me face the numbers and ask for help? |
| Overwork: How long can I keep this up? | A date | What can I set down, share or hand on? |
| A hard manager: Why does he have it in for me? | His motives | What have I seen, what can I say, and who can I talk to? |
| Quitting: Should I quit? | A yes or no for you | What would staying and leaving each ask of me? |
