Spreads for love questions
Choose the spread from the question: three cards for your next step, the choice spread for a decision in love, and the Hexagram for how two people meet.
In this lesson you will
- Choose between the three-card, choice and Hexagram spreads from the shape of a love question.
- Set up a choice spread so that both options are paths you can take.
- Read a compatibility Hexagram as how two people meet, not as a score.
You have had feelings for a close friend for months, and you cannot decide whether to tell him now or wait until after the trip you have planned together. You reach for the Hexagram, because people say it is the love spread. For this question, though, a different spread fits far better.
Let the question choose the spread
No spread is the love spread. Each one is a set of questions, and the right one is the spread whose positions ask what your question needs. Look at the shape of your question first.
| The shape of your question | Spread | Why it fits |
|---|---|---|
| One question about your next step: a crush, a message, a first date | Three cards: Situation, Obstacle, Advice | It ends in advice you can act on this week. |
| A choice between two paths you can take: tell or wait, move in or not | Choice spread (二者択一), five cards | It shows what each path brings you, side by side. |
| Where a relationship between two people stands, or how you fit together (相性) | Hexagram, seven cards | Each of you, the timeline and the way forward gets its own position. |
So the friend question is a choice: telling him now and waiting are two paths only you can take. The Hexagram would pull the reading toward his feelings, which no card can see.
