The Horoscope spread
Twelve houses for twelve areas of life and a thirteenth card for the theme: how to lay the Horoscope spread, read it for the year ahead, and keep thirteen cards from turning into thirteen fortunes.
In this lesson you will
- Lay the Horoscope spread and name the area of life each house covers.
- Read thirteen cards in order: the center, the houses of the question, then opposite houses.
- Read the health and money houses as habits and choices, never as a diagnosis or a forecast.
It is the start of a new year, or your birthday, and you want to look at your whole life rather than one question. One card for each area of life, twelve in a circle and a thirteenth in the center: that is the Horoscope spread. Many Japanese readers lay it once a year.
A wheel of twelve houses
The spread lays twelve cards in a circle, one for each house, starting at the left and running counterclockwise, and a thirteenth in the center. Each house is an area of life: you, your money, your words, your home, and so on around the circle. The center card names the theme that runs through them all.
It answers a different kind of question from the spreads so far. Instead of “What should I do about this?”, it asks “What is going on across my life?” Laid for the year ahead, it asks what each area of your life asks of you this year.
